As a designer,

I thrive off the struggle of developing the perfect balance of elements to achieve the best possible end result.

I have always been drawn to problem solving, and design has proven to be the most difficult problem to solve yet. Every project brings forth new challenges and things I have yet to consider. I approach projects with equal consideration for function and aesthetics, because in the end I am not just an artist; I am a communicator and problem solver.

Kanna App Project

KANNA

UX/UI Design/App Design/Iconography

KANNA

Kanna is an app built around connecting people of similar interests for outdoor activities. Many love the outdoors, but don’t have the skills required or have the people to go with, so they don’t make it out often. Kanna makes it easy to find the up-to-date information pulled from users’ social feeds and schedule adventures to explore the great outdoors.

Plato's Republic Project

PLATO'S REPUBLIC

Publication Design/Illustration/Typography

PLATO'S REPUBLIC

Plato's Republic is a philosophical dialogue from 300 BCE discussing justice in men and the state. A common explanation for the traits of a good man are the four cardinal virtues: justice, wisdom, temperance, and courage. The covers of these books feature anatomical illustrations of parts of the body associated with each virtue. When each of the books connect in a circle, the illustrations are completed throughout and you have all the parts of a just man.

Veneto Cigars Project

VENETO

Packaging/Branding

VENETO CIGARS

I created the company of Veneto Cigars for a packaging and branding project for a three-dimensional graphic design course. Veneto is a top of the line cigar company drawing inspiration from the region of Veneto, Italy as well as the classic image of an Italian mobster. The brand was meant to create a modern style while still capturing the usual feel of century old cigar brands.

The combination poker set and cigar box idea spurred from the typical image of mobsters gathering around for a couple stogies and some cards. When you open the sharp, clean designed box, you first see the poker set. The poker set can removed, giving the feeling there is a false bottom to the box, as if you’ve come across something hidden for a reason, much like the lives of the mobsters. The box I built and designed, made of solid oak, and lined with a high end fabric is meant to further the quality of the brand and give you the impression you’ve received the highest end product.

Dressing Room Project

THE DRESSING ROOM

Illustration/Packaging/Branding

THE DRESSING ROOM

The Dressing Room is a burger shop where you have endless options for dressings to put on your food. Receive your food, head into "the dressing room" and top it with whatever your heart desires.

The packaging and branding for The Dressing Room is inspired by the simple, structured brands of older food establishments, combined with the chaos of the artists of lyrical abstraction. The illustrations are influenced directly by the artwork of that period, giving it energy while depicting the variety of sauces.

Annual Report Project

WHO ANNUAL REPORT

Publication Design/Typography

ANNUAL REPORT

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that deals with public health. To represent them through the annual report I wanted to focus on imagery of the people they are helping, bringing it back to why they do what they do.

Outside Cedar City Project

OUTSIDE CEDAR CITY

Web Design/Front-End Development

OUTSIDE CEDAR CITY

Outside Cedar City is a resource to cure the inevitable boredom in the small town of Cedar City in southern Utah. The city is in close proximity to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, and this site makes it easy to access information about hiking, biking, and climbing in the area. Using Google Maps and crowdsourcing information, it makes the most accurate, up-to-date information accessible in a simple way so you can get out and going as quick as possible.

Mood Mag Project

MOODMAG

Interactive Digital Magazine

MOODMAG: LUNCHBOX EDITION

As kids we all had our lunch boxes that had our favorite toy, super hero, or movie character on it. It was our way of expressing ourselves to everyone around us. Mood Mag Lunchbox Edition is an interactive magazine dedicated to your quirky passions and interests. Each article tells about the author's nerdiest hobbies while using methods to create animations and interaction to bring the reader in.

My Mood Mag article was on space exploration and more specifically the James Webb Space Telescope and what it plans to do. I have an interactive timeline demonstrating the stages of the big bang, as well as an diagram explaining the electromagnetic spectrum that includes a slider to better understand it.

Festival Of Colors Project

HOLI: FESTIVAL OF COLORS

Responsive Web Design/Front-End Development

FESTIVAL OF COLORS

Festival of Colors is an exciting Indian celebration for the coming of Spring that is filled with music, food, and the throwing of colorful powders. The people at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple have brought the amazing experience to Utah Valley and it has become an event that people travel from all over the country just to attend. This website draws from the vibrance and excitement of the festival to give you a feeling of the experience from the second you enter.

Men Of Winter Project

MEN OF WINTER

Publication Design/Photography

MEN OF WINTER

Men Of Winter is a publication designed around the experience of meeting somebody for the first time. With a high end appearance and tongue in cheek undertones and content, it explores the steps of a first impression experimenting with pages sizes and continually building information. The design was created to have a classy feel, but to contradict itself in being humorous, purposely pretentious, and outright ridiculous once you begin reading and considering the whole idea.

"The first impression is everything."

This publication is meant to deliver the first impression like you would experience in real life, you see them, but information getting down to the real them is revealed little by little. You start off with somebody else's opinions in the "reviews" just as you might have people telling you about the person. Flip the first page, and the reviews are no longer seen, nor revelant, you are assessing the obvious "specs", noticing their height, hair color, eyes, etc. As the next page is flipped, you lose the title of Specs but the information remains as you get to truly know the person.

While inspired by a firsthand experience meeting someone and a high end style of design, it is all meant to be read completely tongue in cheek. The reviews and bios are outrageous, creating some ridiculous idea of what this person or "product" is. It is supposed to give you the impression of a high end clothing catalog, as if the clothes are for sale, but is meant to entertain you once you get to actually reading it and see that the individuals are the true product.

Miniature Lettpress Book Project

A BRIEF AWARENESS

Letterpress Book/Illustration/Typography

A BRIEF AWARENESS

A Brief Awareness is a miniature two-color letterpressed book using an excerpt from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It tells of a whale and a bowl of petunias coming into existence in the air above the Earth and its coming to terms with itself and its surroundings, throughout its very brief lifespan. Printed by myself on a Vandercook Universal using photopolymer plates from Boxcar Press that I had designed digitally.

Architectural World Project

ARCHITECTURAL WORLD

Poster Design/Photo Compositing

SAMSUNG GS5

The goal of this poster was to draw inspiration from an architectural structure and a current music video to create an ad for the Samsung Galaxy S5. I merged the geometric forms of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water with the landscape, just as he was trying to do with the original design of the building. The music video I am using to advertise the phone is Woodkid's video for Run Boy Run. The video creates a surreal flattened landscape with strong contrasts and strong lighting.

Architectural World Project

WOODWORKS

Responsive Web Design/Front-End Development

WOODWORKS

This is a small site for a boutique that sells wooden accessories such as sunglasses and watches. Its high end feel and blues create a feeling of high quality while keeping it feeling laid back.

Americana Show Poster Project

AMERICANA SHOW POSTER

Letterpress Poster/Typography

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE POSTER

For this show poster for a production of A Streetcar Named Desire, I drew inspiration from traditional Americana letterpress design and the New Orleans setting the play takes place in. The process of printing the poster merged the process of letterpress printing with today's technology. The design was first created digitally, but then using a laser cutter, I cut and engraved the design into plates of birch plywood. These pieces were then mounted, inked, and printed on the letterpress.

TWILIGHT
Digital Painting

In excitement of the new Star Wars film, a digital illustration depicting Aayla Secura in the time before her death. My first illustration in Photoshop, drawing inspiration from classical painting's poses and composition using elements of dynamic symmetry.

The Rabbler
Digital Painting

The Rabbler lives deep in the underwater glow caves, protecting what people believe is the remains and the treasure of the earliest explorers. Camouflaged by it bioluminescence amongst the twinkling of the cave ceiling, it preys on all who enter in search of what the cave contains, or the unfortunate wanderer. Using it’s luminous tongue, it lures divers deeper and deeper into the winding caves where it feeds on them. Many have entered, none have returned.

After working with a pair of 4th graders from a local elementary school to develop and illustrate "The Rabbler" that lived in the location I gave them, I then used Photoshop to create my own version of the same creature their crazy imaginations had thought up.
